Material Required

3/4 Yds. jersey or velvet. 4-1/2 Doz. large pearls. 1 Large tube of small beads. 1 Skein yarn.

Method

Cut material into two strips 16" wide. Seam together and press seam open (Ill. #1). This strip measures 1-1/2 yds. Fold strip of material lengthwise and stitch together (Ill. #2). Turn strip of material to right side and press. Turn each end of strip under 1/4", baste together and stitch. Make a 2" inverted pleat at top of strip on wrong side and stitch both sides of strip together with the inverted pleat between; stitch down 5-1/2" (Ill. #3).

Trace pattern for beading. Fold scarf in half and lay pattern at top of scarf on one side and baste around edge. Then turn scarf to other side and repeat. Sew a large bead with a small bead every 1/2" around pattern marked. Then put 12 small beads on needle and overcast scarf edge, making overcast stitches 1/2" apart and slanting each stitch. Simple Two-Loop Bow

This bow can be made with any width ribbon.

Hold ribbon between thumb and middle finger (Ill. #1). Form two equal length loops and ends (Ill. #2). With needle and thread, gather center of bow, pull thread tight and wind thread around several times (Ill. #3). Fasten thread and finish center with a small piece of ribbon (Ill. #4).

Ribbon Pompon

To make a 5" pompon, form a circle, using 10" of ribbon (Ill. #1). Press ends of ribbon firmly in place and make six layers. Flatten circle and cut (Ill. #2). Sew center and wind thread around center several times (Ill. #3). Hold loop section with one hand (Ill. #4). Separate loops by pulling one loop toward you and next loop away from you (HI, #5), forming a pompon. (Ill. #6)

Tailored Bow

Start with small loops (Ill. #1) and gradually increase next loops (Ill. #2). Sew center and wind thread around bow several times. Finish center of bow with a small piece of ribbon, pleated, and sew to underside of bow (Ill. #3).

Material Required

1 Yd. maline.
5" Piece of frame wire.

Cutting Petals

Fold maline over 6". Repeat until maline has been folded over six times (Ill. #1). Pin through all folds every 3". Cut six paper patterns of petal and arrange all six patterns across width of folded maline. Pin patterns to maline and cut out (Ill. #2).

Assembling Petals On Wire

Use clippings of maline to wind wire. Turn wire over 1/2" at top, and wind tight with maline strips (ILL. #3). Then pin two maline petals together, fold lengthwise and sew to wire on fold (Ill. #4). Continue sewing petal after petal, close together, on wire until ornament is the size you want (m. #5).

Color Combinations

Many color combinations can be made by placing two colors together before cutting out petals. Or, half the petals can be cut from 1/2 yd. of material of one color and the rest of the petals cut from 1/2 yd. of a contrasting color. Alternate colors of petals are then sewn to wire. Suggested color combinations are turquoise and brown, pink and black, black and white, shades of purple, etc.
